To start learning to drive you need to be 17 years old, this is the minimum age in the UK that you can legally drive a car on public roads.
If you are not yet 17 then please click here for information on our off road driving courses and facilities.
As a learner driver then it is a legal requirement for you to display L plates in a highly visible place on the front and back of your vehicle.
There's a minimum standard for driving so it's worthwhile to check that your eyesight is OK. Make sure that you can read a car number plate from the minimum distance. If you need glasses or contact lenses, that's OK, but you must wear them whenever you drive and, of course, when you take your test.
Before you can learn to drive you should have a signed provisional driving license. You can apply for this online by clicking here or by completing a D1 application form at your post office. It is worthwhile noting that you can apply for your provisional license up to three month's before your 17th birthday but you will have to wait until you actually turn 17 before you can drive on public roads.
When you start driving you will need to ensure that you have sufficient insurance for the car you are learning to drive in. All Baxter School of Motoring vehicles are fully insured for our learner drtivers, however if you are also learning on a private car then you will need to organise your own insurance before you drive on the roads.
